Regulation Dekhockey sticks measure up to 60
inches long from the end of the handle to the
heel of the blade. The handle is made of hardwood
and the blade should be made of durable plastic.
Fiberglass coated or uncoated wooden blades are
not allowed in official league play because they
wear and splinter easily (on hard surfaces) and
could be the cause of serious injuries. The
length of the blade from the heel to the toe
cannot exceed 12 1/2 inches and the width cannot
exceed 3 inches. The blade may be curved either
left or right up to a maximum of 1/2 inch. (The
1/2 inch curvature is determined by placing the
face of the blade against any flat surface with
the heel and toe touching simultaneously so that
no part along the bottom of the blade exceed 1/2
inch curvature.) When any part of the blade is
worn to less than 1 1/2 inches wide, it is
illegal and cannot be used in an official game.
(If a loop on an Air-Flo blade is broken off, the
stick is considered dangerous and Rule 14 should
apply).
The goalie stick measures up to 54 inches from
the end of the handle to the heel of the blade.
The length of the goalie blade cannot exceed 26
inches from the handle to the heel and 15 1/2
inches from the heel to the toe. The width of the
blade cannot exceed 3 1/2 inches except at the
bend in the heel where it can measure 4 1/2
inches. Plastic goalie blades are recommended,
however, wooden goalie blades are permissible
providing they are taped along the bottom edge of
the blade, from toe to heel. When the tape is
worn, it must be re-taped before starting the
next period or the next game.
Any sticks used in league play which do not
conform with these specifications will result in
a minor penalty to the player. Either captain may
through appealing to the referee, challenge the
legality of an opposing player's equipment. If
the equipment does indeed prove to be illegal,
the referee will assess a minor penalty to the
player using the illegal equipment. If, however,
the equipment does meet the standards stated in
Rule 8 parts a. and b. the appealing team shall
receive a minor penalty for delay of game. Only
one request is permitted per stoppage.
The colors range from various shades for warm or
cold weather temperatures. The referees decide
which color ball will be used by dropping them
from a height of 3 feet onto the playing surface.
The ball when dropped from a height of 3 feet
will not rebound more than 8 inches on the first
bounce and no more than 2 inches on the second
bounce. The ball with the least amount of bounce
determines which ball will be used. If the bounce
is the same the referees shall decide which ball
will be used. Once the game is underway the color
or type ball can be changed. Each team must
supply 2 balls to the referee before the start of
the game.
Leg guards worn by a goaltender shall not exceed
12 inches in extreme width when on the leg of the
player.
Glove for the catching hand may be either a
regulation size ice hockey goaltenders
glove, a baseball fielder's glove or first
baseman glove.
Glove with attached deflector may not exceed 16
1/2 inches in length or 8 1/2 inches in width for
the stick hand.
Protective face masks with back plate or helmet,
chest protectors and protective cup are
mandatory. Shoulder and arm pads are recommended.
The goaltender cannot wear attachments to his
equipment or his body which will widen his
defense of the goal beyond the normal padding to
protect him from injury.
All players must wear matching jersey's, approved
DEK Hockey shin and ankle pads, elbow pads and
gloves.
Approved helmets are mandatory for the Freshmen
Division (Ages 16-19) and under and highly
recommended for Senior Divisions. Face cages are
mandatory for all player's under 18. Face cages
are recommended for all players over 18.
Team colors are declared to league presidents who
can direct any team to change its colors if it
appears they will blend too closely with another
team. In inter-league play, the away team must
change its colors if the referee feels the colors
are too closely related to the home team's color
to officiate the game. The primary color
of each team, must be consistent with each player
of the same team, such that, the referee can
easily recognize every player on the same team.
(i.e. no black jersey on a blue jersey team).
Each player must have a number at least 8 inches
high on the back of his jersey for
identification.
A referee may at any time, declare as being
illegal any equipment that has been badly worn or
damaged and which in his opinion may cause an
injury. Such equipment shall be removed from the
game without penalty unless it reappears later in
the game.
